Vision 20/10
by Pastor Jackie Poe
"And the Lord answered me and said, Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes by may [be able to] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by. For the vision is yet for an appointed time and it hastens to the end [fulfillment]; it will not deceive or disappoint. Though it tarry, wait [earnestly] for it, because it will surely come; it will not be behind on its appointed day. (Habakkuk 2:2-3)
Vision 20/10 is about acuteness and clarity of spiritual vision. A person with 20/10 vision can see from a further distance that someone with normal 20/20 vision.
The prophet Elisha understood this principle. In 2 Kings chapter 2, he asked Elijah for a double portion of his anointing. The great old prophet told the young apprentice that he had asked a hard thing, but that if Elisha saw him when he was taken up, it would be done for him. There were three occasions when Elijah tried to get Elisha to stay behind, but each time Elisha insisted on going further.
First, there was Gilgal - a historic and significant place where the anointing oil had been poured out by Samuel upon Saul. The second place was Bethel whose very name means "the house of God". The last was the city of Jericho which represented victory - where enemies were conquered.
Elisha could see there was more that God could do for those who are completely obedient. He was not willing to settle for what had already been; he wanted more. He had the kind of vision that can be defined as the ability to anticipate future events and developments.
Don't settle for the "historical" things God has done or even for past victories that have taken place in your life. Look further in 2010 to what the Lord will do for you. Position yourself for new blessings and miracles to take place as you keep your eyes focused on Him!
